Where are you located and what’s your favorite thing about your area?

I live in Southern California. I obviously love the sunshine and endless things to do here, but I also love that I live close enough that I can come up to headquarters if I want to!

What is your role at Quora and what do you do in that role?

I work with the marketing team to ensure that our sales team has everything they need to be successful. This can come in the form of marketing partnerships, building collateral, or doing direct outreach. Before that I worked with creators on Quora and I found that a lot of the skills I used with creators translated to marketing because in both cases I am promoting a product I believe in, and that is our platform. Our goal is to grow and share the world’s knowledge whether it be from advertisers looking to share their services, or creators looking to reach a new audience. There are so many ways to contribute!

What kind of impact does your team have on the company as a whole?

Our team really highlights the best parts of Quora. Why put ads on Quora? We’ll tell you! Why write on Quora and share your expertise? We’ll tell you!

How would you describe the culture of your team?

Our team is really fun, our team meetings often begin by sharing about common interests, travel, home life updates, etc. We always get our work done and work collaboratively together using tools like Slack and Asana, but we also know how to have fun.

Which one of our core values at Quora do you most resonate with?

I have always loved how agile the company is here at Quora. If you have an idea about how to make things better, there is someone who will listen and help you implement change! It’s really great to have your voice heard and to work for a company that is always evolving.

What qualities does someone need to be successful at Quora?

To be successful at Quora, you really need to have a voice, you need to be flexible, and you need to communicate effectively. Because we are remote first, you can’t be afraid to speak up when you need something or have an idea. There isn’t an office to walk around and share ideas so it helps to not be afraid to reach out! Things are also changing all the time. I started working on publishing partnerships, that evolved to working with writers in writer relations, and from there the team evolved into a creator program. I was then able to transfer those skills to Business Marketing where I am now. Don’t be afraid to take on new roles and learn new things! Working remotely also means you need to be able to communicate well with your team, and people outside of your team. Let people know what you are doing, ask for input, and don’t be afraid to collaborate!

What benefit has working remotely had on you and your team?

I have three kids, so working remotely has been such a great thing for my lifestyle! If I need to run to the kids’ school mid-day or go to an activity in the afternoon, I can! Our team is spread across different parts of the U.S. so working remotely allows us to work during our own workday hours while still collaborating online. I like to work in the evenings so I’ll often send something to my team and they will reply first thing the next day when they hop online!

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I love to explore new places and travel with my family (I have three kids ages 14, 11, 8). We live in Southern California so there is so much to do! We also have annual passes to Disneyland so we love going there together as often as we can
